Hispanic Ministry
We are to love our neighbors as ourselves by reflecting hope and justice on behalf of bilingual children and their families in the LTUMC community.
Principios Chiquitos, Small Beginnings, is a Hispanic outreach program at LTUMC. It had its small start in February 2005. Program oversight is given through Discipleship Ministry.
To Get Involved
Often times, the greatest difference we can make in another’s life, is to give the gift of hospitality. Look over the variety of programs that we offer and if you would like to participate in any way and offer that gift to our neighbors, please contact Patty Rosemurgy, 266-9877x206.
Amigos Network
This network has been established to respond to families who have immediate and critical needs. It is an email contact group that receives alerts with requests for such items as diapers, shoes, etc. It is not necessary to deliver the items, just make the purchase as soon as possible and bring the items to the church. You can become part of this ‘quick response’ team by emailing to discipleship@ltumc.org
Back to School Shoe Drive Los zapatos para la Escuela
In order to help children return to school in the fall with bold and confident steps, we run a shoe drive in August. Families submit their children’s shoe sizes and participants purchase a new pair of shoes. They are delivered to the kids before the first day of school.
Christmas Angel Tree Navidad Angel Arbol
The Angel Tree program provides a place for underprivileged families to place Christmas wish lists or needs on a tree here at the church. Our members select items from the tree and take care of the shopping. All gifts are wrapped and delivered the week before Christmas. Christmas 2008, gifts were delivered to 250 children in 90 families.
English Language Family Night El Idioma inglés la Noche Familiar
ELFN meets on Thursday nights from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. This program offers support and instruction in English for the whole family.
Adults
The adult class is led by an experienced ESL instructor. It is also staffed with a team of volunteers each week. Our mission is to provide a one on one experience for each student. In this way, we are able to tailor the lesson for each individual.
Children and Youth
Bilingual leadership is provided to support these young students with their homework, tutoring, reading and language development.
Infants, Toddlers and Preschoolers
Nursery care is provided for the youngest of our guests. Appropriate interaction and activities are offered.
Las Palomas Preschool
This bilingual preschool program is available during the school year for preschool children who have turned 3 years old. There are presently classes on Monday and Friday, the hours are 8:30 am – 2:30 pm. The children must meet the immunization requirements set by the LTUMC Preschool. Funding for this program is provided by the church and contributions.
Vacation Bible School Escuela Biblca de Vacaciones
Each year at Vacation Bible School, we do offer a class that is delivered in Spanish. For those Hispanic children who are able, they will be part of the mainstream VBS programs.
Worship Adoración y Música
As we are able, we offer a worship experience in Spanish in the LTUMC church sanctuary. These services are usually on Sunday afternoons at 4:00pm.
